Michigan Coalition for Human Rights’ presents
2013 FREEDOM TOUR
June 20– July 4, 2013
GEORGIA •ALABAMA •MISSISSIPPI
Walk the history of the civil rights movement, engage the questions of activism for our current moment in Detroit, and build community with high school students around the city.
Commemorating the 50th anniversary week of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech” in Detroit, our bus will head south. We will be taking high school students from metro-Detroit to the King Center in Atlanta, GA, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the Southern Poverty Law Center in Alabama, the Viola Liuzzo Commemorative Site and more.
The Pax Christi Michigan State Council is pleased to announce that PCM will offer $1,000.00 scholarships to TWO – 11th or 12th grade students from Michigan high schools who need financial assistance to go on the MCHR Freedom Tour (see attached). The total cost per student is $1,500.00, which means they each would have to raise an additional $500.00 to go on this once-in-a-lifetime journey.
IF YOU KNOW of any students whom you think would like to go on the Freedom Tour, please let them know about Pax Christi Michigan’s scholarship opportunities ASAP. Hopefully parishes, schools, friends will help them in being creative about raising the added funds. See application deadlines and details in the attachments:
